Childhood 2008 - 2012
I had been experimenting with finger painting for a while in the early 2000s, and as I worked the imagery that kept coming up were things from my childhood in England. I decided to try and paint scenes and situations from those very early days entirely from memory and imagination. The technique of laying the paint on with the tips of my fingers was gorgeously suggestive. All the little touches and incongruities drew me in and kicked off all kinds of recollections. At the same time the surfaces and color became rich and deep. I exhibited these paintings in New York at 532 Gallery Thomas Jaeckel in December 2012.
