Putti 2016 - 2019

I have been fasciinated for many years by these fantastical creatures.  They first show up in Roman art but really came into their own in the Renaissance and the centuries after when they were used, usually playfully, to ape, mimic and comment on human behavior and its attendant follies.  While entertaining myself with their antics I took the opportunity to explore several different methods of painting them using finger painting and  brush painting in oil as well as a sgraffito technique with layers of acrylic.    These paintings were exhibited in New York at 532 Thomas Jaeckel Gallery in 2019.
